John Saviours Udomboso, known professionally as Young Jonn, was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, into a Christian family with roots in Akwa Ibom State. Immersed in church life from an early age, he learned to play the drums and keyboard, experiences that sharpened his musical instincts and discipline. Those formative years sparked a deeper curiosity about sound, leading him to experiment with music production as a teenager, drawing influence from gospel melodies and contemporary Nigerian pop. Over time, he evolved from a budding beatmaker into one of the architects of modern Afrobeats, creating hits for leading artists before confidently stepping forward as a recording act in his own right.
His professional journey gained significant traction in 2012 after he moved to Lagos and joined Hit Factory Studio. It was here that he earned the moniker "Young Jonn the Wicked Producer," becoming the primary sonic architect for Olamide and the YBNL Nation roster. Between 2014 and 2017, he was responsible for some of Nigeria's most iconic street-pop anthems, including "Bobo," "Story for the Gods," and Lil Kesh’s "Efejoku." His production dominance was officially recognized when he won Producer of the Year at The Headies 2016.
However, the 2017 passing of his mother served as a profound catalyst for change. Feeling that producing beats alone was no longer enough to express his evolving emotions, he took a step back to refine his craft as a vocalist. In 2022, he pivoted fully to a recording career, signing with Chocolate City Music. His debut EP, Love Is Not Enough, produced the massive hit "Dada," which reached new heights after a remix with Davido.
A string of viral chart-toppers like "Xtra Cool," "Sharpally," and "Aquafina." By the time he released his 2024 debut album Jiggy Forever and his 2025 follow-up Blue Disco, Young Jonn had completed one of the rarest and most impressive transitions in African music history: moving from a legendary behind-the-scenes producer to a frontline superstar.
